In dedication to celebrating the joy, laughter, and creativity of Anaal Patel

Though Anaal has been missing since January 2019, she lives in each of our hearts every day. Please use this website to celebrate her life, share memories, connect with others, and find some peace in seeing her smile that we loved so dearly.

Anaal’s Disappearance

In January 2019, Anaal’s closest friends lost direct contact and communication with her. Throughout 2018, Anaal had been traveling around the world. The West Coast - Bay Area and Reno - had been her respite in between her travels. She always kept an itinerary and checked in with friends frequently.

After not receiving contact nor any indication of a new itinerary in 2019, we reached out to Anaal’s brother, Vishal Patel, who informed us via text and phone calls that Anaal was traveling in India and wanted distance from family and friends. We were alarmed, concerned, and confused. Over the next year, Vishal continued to give us updates on Anaal via phone calls and text messages and explained that he had frequent and direct telephone contact with Anaal. He explained that his family was actively searching for her in India. We urged Vishal to relay our messages to Anaal and offered our support towards the search.

In March 2020, we were notified by family that Vishal had unexpectedly passed away. In direct correspondence with the family, we realized that Anaal was only in India for a brief time in December 2018 before traveling to Mexico City with her brother in January 2019. She did not stay in India.

Phone statements, credit card usage, and passport stamps confirm her travel into Mexico City but not her exit. We were completely unaware of this travel and alarmed that it did not match the narrative we were previously given.

Because Anaal’s activity ceased abruptly afterJanuary 2019, we reported all information to the FBI about her disappearance and our correspondence with Vishal. The FBI began a case file in 2020. Since we are not family, we have no legal access to information regarding the investigation. Several local police and sheriff's departments  - San Francisco and San Diego - have denied our request to file a missing person’s report for Anaal, most recently in 2023.

We will continue to pursue a missing person’s report so that there is a record of Anaal’s disappearance. We welcome any assistance with navigating or investigating missing persons in Mexico and any information you might have on our beloved friend’s disappearance.
